WISCONSIN RIVER TRAIL NEWS

Where are we? We’re working on 2016’s goals! Coming up next is our 2nd Annual Horse-Drawn Sleigh Ride! On Saturday, February 6, from 12:00-4 pm, we will have sleigh riding and snow shoeing at Kronshage Park. Cost is $5.00/person or $20/family. Kids 3 and under are free. Hot cocoa and snow shoes will be provided. If there’s no snow, we will have horse-drawn wagon rides instead! Please call Tonia at 391-0113 to reserve your spot/time slot. You can also just show up and jump on the next available ride too, but reservations are encouraged!

Our next meeting is Tuesday, February 2nd at Double K’s at 6 pm. Tim Jacobson is going to present on fundraising. Our meeting will be an hour and anyone who would like to volunteer or see what we’re up to is more than welcome to come. We’re kind of a fun group, I’m not gonna lie!

Here are a few things NOT to forget: Our big bike is always available for $15 to celebrate any event you might have. Call Joel at 375-5708 to “hit up someone’s yard”! Also when ordering from Amazon, if you type in www.smileamazon.com instead, you allow Amazon to donate 5% of your order total to the Wisconsin River Trail (WRTO) with no addition to your bill! Just look up the WRTO before you order. It’s simple to do and any donation helps!

Construction on phase 1 will begin in about 2 months with completion planned by the end of the summer. Phase 2A to Cozy Acres Mobile Home Park is in the works. We’re applying for a Dept. of Transportation 80/20 grant, where we would be responsible for the 20%. THEN, we are allowed to apply for the DNR Knowles Nelson Grant as a city again. If we were to receive both grants, our costs would be 0….yes, ZERO! We have also worked on smaller $5000-$50,000 grants in the last month too.

Many times the grants ask if our project is supported by the community. Most people in the community are excited and so many of us will use this trail. My request to you is if you could contribute by filling out an automatic deduction (that allows a stop date) and donate even $5.00/month. If 1000 families would do this in 2016, we would raise $60,000 without it hurting anyone’s pocket book. If you are interested in helping improve our children’s lives, our community, and our health, please contact me (denisefisher5995@gmail.com) and I can mail or email you a form. Again, it’s easy. Separately we may never have much to leave our children when we’re gone, but together we can leave them a legacy trail, their inheritance, that will only be built upon.
