Wisconsin River Trail Organization (WRTO) is a community-driven non-profit organization creating a hiking/biking trail in the Southwest Driftless Area of Wisconsin.
Alone, we may never leave any significant inheritance for our children or grandchildren, but together, as a board and group of volunteers, we can do something even better. We can leave a trail. A legacy trail that will only be improved upon.
A Welcome Note from the WRTO Board: Thank you for checking in with the WRTO! We’re a friendly bunch and excited to have your interest. While we do not have miles of trail yet, we do offer many fun, fundraising events and other outdoor activities, so much so, that we were inspired to rebrand Boscobel as Wisconsin’s “Outdoor Recreation Destination”.
So dive in and feel free to let us know if you have questions. We’re pretty proud of our little slice of heaven.

Together with our friends and supporters we are building a pristine, unique, silent sport, paved, safe recreational trail loop that will offer peaceful, natural views of rural landscape.
The trail provides a renewed sense of health and wellness-physically, mentally, and spiritually.
The first phase was completed in 2016 and connects the Sanders Creek 2-mile walking/biking trail within the city of Boscobel, to our Von Haden Boat Landing, approximately 1 mile out of town.
Now all trail users are able to use the Wisconsin River Trail to walk or bike to the boat landing safely, view our natural habitat of eagles’ nests and turtle habitats as they travel, and more!
In this phase we’ll create a hiking/biking trail that leads from Boscobel toward Woodman.
It is economically and environmentally- friendly to parallel parts of the railroad tracks, 51 feet from the tracks, to minimize the need to clear land, and also, to widen easements that are not taxing to the landowners.
Phase 3 will bring the trail from Wauzeka to Boscobel along the scenic path of Highway 60, which closely follows the beautiful Wisconsin River.
Get ready to enjoy even more breathtaking views and a seamless trail experience from start to finish!
The highlight of our trail will be a magnificent feat: a crossing over the Wisconsin River. This picturesque location features stunning country and river views, providing a unique opportunity to admire nature’s beauty that was previously only accessible by boat.
Get ready for a breathtaking experience on the Wisconsin River Trail!
Our numbers that speak
… and miles to go before we sleep.
Our numbers push us to do our best and every year we strive to raise more funds for trail construction than we did the year before.
Love grows here.
Your monthly contribution helps show community involvement and improves our grant applications hugely. Please consider a small monthly donation (as low as $5 a month) to help us build the trail.
